The Truth on Energy Savings
Most people are misinformed when it comes to energy savings. We have been taught over the years that we have to spend thousands of dollars to save a few hundred. "Replace all your windows (HVAC, appliances, or whatever they are trying to sell) now to reduce your energy bills." Most of us don’t have the extra money to replace all of our windows, and “Our HVAC unit is only 5 years old, do I really need to replace it?” Why replace your HVAC unit with a high efficiency unit when you can easily make your existing unit run less and have a more comfortable home? (and less dust)
Why replace all your windows when that’s not where all your energy losses are? It’s like putting a band aid on your arm when your leg is bleeding. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it is a good idea to replace your windows, but we only recommend it if the windows are broken or if you want a different look. There are too many other areas in every home that are wasting energy, and it is much cheaper to remedy these areas. We can show you exactly where, live, and in person. You will also be provided with a detailed report showing these areas with recommended improvements. Can the window company or HVAC company do that? How about the ‘Free Energy Audit’ from your power company? Ask them what type of diagnostic testing they will perform on your home. I can pretty much tell you the answer now. They are becoming more popular as people are looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption, but you really don’t want to spend that much without some type of return. What else can you do?
