There is a big difference between the ‘free energy audit’ that the utility companies offer and a comprehensive audit from a company like ours. First, we have no alliances with any utility. Ask yourself why do the utility companies want me to use less of their product? It doesn’t make sense. We aren’t discouraging you from having them come to your home to do their audit, go ahead and schedule it. Just be aware of their motives. We have nothing to sell other than our services. The ‘typical’ utility audit will only last about an hour with no comprehensive testing. Our Home Energy Audit on average takes four to five hours at your home, depending on the square footage, then another two hours entering the data into a software program and calculating the results. We utilize a Blower Door to depressurize the home and calculate the air change rate of the structure to determine the ‘leakiness’ level and to determine how far to seal without compromising air quality. We measure all the walls, doors and windows and calculate an R-Value for the thermal boundary. We test your duct system for leaks. We test all your combustion appliances for efficiency and safety. We further evaluate the structure with a Thermal Imaging camera to detect air leaks, missing or inadequate insulation, and moisture problems. Our comprehensive report lists all of our findings and lists items to address in priority. We can also suggest local reputable contractors that are specially trained in this field if you prefer not to do the work yourself. Ask the utility company if they offer any of these services.
